JT Hodges is welcomed Into the Circle on Opry.com.
Texas native JT Hodges made his Grand Ole Opry debut Friday night on the show that also featured Diamond Rio, Craig Campbell, Johnny Lee, Rebecca Lynn Howard, and more.
He’s no stranger to music, though. In fact, he’s been hearing it all his life. He grew up in Fort Worth, TX, where his parents established Buffalo Sound Studios, the city’s first multi-track recording studio. Not only were kids allowed to hang around the studio watching artists like Michael Bolton and T. Bone Burnett, but according to JT, “it was part of the chores.”
“Once we were done, me and my brother would be so excited to go into my dad’s audio library and listen to record after record. That was the environment that I grew up in, from crawling around the console at eight months old to the day my dad finally had to sell the studio.”
Despite the rock edge sound of some of JT’s tracks, he doesn’t see it as any surprise where he’s ended up.
“Country is the first thing I ever remember hearing. My grandmother loved Conway Twitty and we used to listen to him all the time. I’ve definitely come back to my roots, because more than anything, country music is character. I was a very fortunate kid in that my mother and father raised me right, with traditional Southern values, that yes ma’am, no ma’am philosophy. Whether you want to believe it or not, that is a part of country music. So yes, I am a country artist – regardless of what else I like to listen to. For me, it started with country and that’s where it ends, too.”
Keep an eye out for this new Opry performer. His single, “Hunt You Down” is out now, with an album on track for release (on which he co-wrote nine of the 11 songs) by the end of the year.
